چکیده

Explicit time-stepping methods are commonly used to solve transient, timedependent problems. For problems involving small-scale features, adaptive unstructured mesh refinement can be effective. Unfortunately, using such dynamic strategies on parallel computers can result in difficult load balancing issues because of the relatively high cost of the mesh partitioning to the time-step computation. We present a partitioning strategy that addresses this problem and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in modeling of a two-dimensional Raleigh-Taylor instability.

Adaptive attitude controller of a reentry vehicles based on Back-stepping Dynamic inversion method

This paper presents an attitude control algorithm for a Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV) with a low lift/drag ratio (L/D < 0.5), in the presence of external disturbances, model uncertainties, control output constraints and the thruster model. The main novelty of proposed control strategy is a new combination of the attitude control methods included backstepping, dynamic inversion and adaptive cont...

MultiLevel Local Time-Stepping Methods of Runge-Kutta-type for Wave Equations

Local mesh refinement significantly influences the performance of explicit timestepping methods for numerical wave propagation. Local time-stepping (LTS) methods improve the efficiency by using smaller time-steps precisely where the smallest mesh elements are located, thus permitting a larger time-step in the coarser regions of the mesh without violating the stability condition. However, when t...

Multi-Level Explicit Local Time-Stepping Methods for Second-Order Wave Equations

Local mesh refinement severly impedes the e ciency of explicit time-stepping methods for numerical wave propagation. Local time-stepping (LTS) methods overcome the bottleneck due to a few small elements by allowing smaller time-steps precisely where those elements are located. Yet when the region of local mesh refinement itself contains a sub-region of even smaller elements, any local time-step...

Explicit local time-stepping methods for Maxwell's equations

Explicit local time-stepping methods are derived for the time dependent Maxwell equations in conducting and non-conducting media. By using smaller time steps precisely where smaller elements in the mesh are located, these methods overcome the bottleneck caused by local mesh refinement in explicit time integrators. When combined with a finite element discretization in space with an essentially d...

Design and Evaluation of a Method for Partitioning and Offloading Web-based Applications in Mobile Systems with Bandwidth Constraints

Computation offloading is known to be among the effective solutions of running heavy applications on smart mobile devices. However, irregular changes of a mobile data rate have direct impacts on code partitioning when offloading is in progress. It is believed that once a rate-adaptive partitioning performed, the replication of such substantial processes due to bandwidth fluctuation can be avoid...
